FloCal 2.11 Software for Storm Water Design Process

SEEC's FloCal is a powerful, Windows-based tool, designed in Australia with a user-friendly interface to aid in the stormwater design process. The program costs only $99 (GST incl.). It has been developed for erosion control works on small catchments and, in particular, for the design of minor excavated channels using products listed in the “Blue Book” (Landcom, 2004) and following its design principles. FloCal is not intended for use in natural or major excavated channels.

The program will help you to:

  1. quickly and accurately determine flow depths and velocities in a constructed channel;
  2. quickly assess various channel widths and depths to facilitate better design;
  3. assess channel lining properties for safety and stability in the design storm;
  4. design temporary stormwater channels for construction sites that comply with local regulations and comply with Water Sensitive Urban Design principles.
Reports can be previewed, printed to your default printer, or opened in MSWord or WordPerfect as Rich Text Format (*.rtf) files.
Using SEEC's FloCal you can promote channel stability, minimise erosion risk and get it right first time. Make FloCal your first stop when assessing or designing water management infrastructure.

Blue Book

This document is the fourth edition of Volume 1: Managing Urban Stormwater: Soils and Construction published in 2004 and is part of a series of documents produced by the NSW Government on environmental protection. It provides guidance for developers, consultants, consent authorities and practitioners for the design, construction and implementation of measures to improve stormwater management during the construction phase of land development.

Volume 1 is specifically for urban works. It is now complemented by a series of booklets in Volume 2 which cover quarries and other mining sites, waste disposal sites, major road and highway construction, access tracks in bushland and installation of services.

Tables A3 and D1 in the Blue Book are being constantly updated with improved technology and product availability. The most recent versions can be downloaded here:

This Excel spreadsheet should be used to size sediment retention basins as required by Section 6.3.3 of the "Blue Book". It should be used on high erosion hazard lands as identified by figure 4.6 of the "Blue Book" or where the designer chooses to run the RUSLE in calculations.

Sediment Basin Detailed Design

This check list is for NSW users and has been developed by SEEC for the preparation/review of Erosion & Sediment Control Plans and Soil & Water Management Plans. It is based on information contained in Chapters 2 and 9 of the "Blue Book". The list is not complete and does not cover all eventualities; it is intended to help prevent key information being omitted.

NSW ESCP/SWMP Check Sheet

This check list has been developed for QLD users by SEEC for the preparation/review of Minor and Major Erosion & Sediment Control Plans according to the requirements of the Maroon Manual. The list is not complete and does not cover all eventualities; it is intended to help prevent key information being omitted.
